Climate Justice Project Report Release
03/12/2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Climate change is the worst threat to racial justice. People of color already live in the most polluted and under-resourced neighborhoods, and face higher rates of health and economic disparities. We are already feeling the impacts of global warming, from flooding to heat waves, to displacement. In the coming years, we will see a rise of costs to energy, food, housing, and other basic needs. As cities prepare for climate change impacts, we will work to ensure that the most marginalized communities are not left out but leading.
The Climate Justice Project was a partnership between Got Green and Puget Sound Sage to create a grassroots committee made up of young leaders of color organizing to challenge systems of oppression. From May to July 2015, the committee surveyed 150 people and 30 organizations from South Seattle/King County on what climate change meant to them and what they’d like us to focus on. This event is a celebration and a report release of our findings and next steps.
This is a free event with child care and food provided. We will have a Photo Booth provided by the City of Seattle’s Environment and Equity Initiative. Participants will receive a copy of the Climate Justice Report itself.
